2:13 am, Capitol Time
“Katniss, my dear. Calm down.” Effie cooed. She held Katniss in her arms like a mother would when her daughter would weep.
“How can I calm down, Effie? Pe-Peeta!” Katniss cried. This was nothing like her, nothing like her at all.
“Sweetheart?” Haymitch called from the door. He entered and muttered “Oh no.”
Katniss cried and cried and cried. She couldn’t hold herself together even with Effie cradling her like a child.
“Look, sweetheart, we will do everything to bring Peeta back, alright?” Haymitch told her. Tired of crying and tear glands dry, Katniss sniffed and nodded. He sent Katniss to her room and he went to sleep as well.
That night, Katniss didn’t sleep. She had her nightmares again, and she needed Peeta beside her more than ever, but no. He’s a weapon of the Capitol, being used against her. But then, she also had determination. She was determined to get Peeta back soon. She knew that Haymitch was ready to fight for his student as well.
The next day, the moment she saw Haymitch, he gave her a slight nod. She nodded back and she knew what he meant:
They will get Peeta back. No matter how high the stakes were.
Katniss knew that if she doesn’t move on from her temporary loss of Peeta, nothing will be fine afterwards.
“Let’s do this.” Katniss muttered.
